Tbilisi State Medical University (TMSU)at Tbilisi, Georgia was founded in the year 1918 and since then the institute has become one of the high ranking Institute of higher education in Caucasus region and is the only government University of the region. The institute was renamed as Tbilisi State Medical University in 1992. The university has almost 20 percent of its intake from foreign countries and presently has almost 5,000 undergraduate and 203 postgraduate students and 1,200 teaching faculty at the university.
The university has a 120 bedded hospital attached to it which is called as the Tbilisi State Medical University Acad. al. Aladashvili University Hospital. The university has more than hundred clinical bases to give best clinical exposure and expertise to its students.
The university is listed under many international organisations like World Health Organisation (WHO), Worls Fedral for Medical education (WFME), Education Commission for Foreign Medical graduates (ECFMG), Schwaitser World Academy (SWA) and UNESCO. After about nine decades in its existence and having produced more than 45,000 doctors the university still believes that teaching, research and medical pharmaceutical activity cannot be unglued. The university presently offers course in five faculties namely Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. It also offers four Higher Professional Education Programs for General Nurses, Midwifes, Pharmacy Assistants, Medical and pharmaceutical equipment technicians. The university has been consistent with the basic guidelines of the European education system and has also undergone Institutional Evaluation programme. The courses are offered in various languages which include English, French, German and Russian Mediums.
