Philips is a multinational consumer electronics company based in Netherlands. It produces the products under the divisions of healthcare, lighting and home appliances including televisions, headphones, home audio, blu-ray players, coffee makers, air purifiers, Mobile phones, monitors and much more. The company is counted among one of the largest producers of lighting in the world.
Philips was set up in 1891 by Gerard Philips and his father, Frederik. Later on the company was joined by Anton, the younger Brother of Gerard Philips who contributed in the expansion of the company. From 1907 to 1912, Philips had set up the factories of filament lamp and lightbulb. In 1920's, the company focused on the electronics and started manufacturing vacuum tubes, electric razor, Chapel radio etc. In the 1949, the company started selling TV sets in 1949 while it introduced the audio cassette in 1963. In the 70's, Philips produced VCR, portable radio, storage devices etc while the 80's witnessed the introduction of CD.
The company's shares are traded on the stock exchange of Euronext Amsterdam. Throughout its journey, Philips has acquired various companies such as Mullard, VLSI, Agilent, Amperex, Magnavox, Signetics etc. Philips has a presence in 100 nations while having factories in over 20 countries across the world.
