History of Leicester Train Station
The Leicester Train Station was opened for public on 5th May 1840 with the name of Leicester which renamed to Leicester Campbell Street on 11th June 1867 and to Leicester London Road on 12th June 1892. Later on, in 1969, the station was given new name Leicester. Leicester was one of the first urban city to be served by a railway, when the Leicester and Swannington railway setup its terminus station on the western side of Leicester in 1832. The Leicester and Swannington railway was later merged into the Midland Railway.
