History
Karnataka Bank started its business journey in the year 1924 and is authorized by the apex bank of India, i.e. "Reserve Bank of India" that gives licensees to financial companies to open new banks. The first branch of the bank was opened in Mangalore, a Coastal town in the Dakshina Kannada district of Madras Presidency. Two individuals played an important part behind the establishment of the bank named as B. R. Vysaray Achar and K. S. N. Adiga. Karnataka Bank is owned by over 87 thousand individuals registered as shareholders. Karnataka Bank is been honored with "A1+-class" scheduled commercial bank by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Karnataka Bank made number of acquisitions of other banks and related businesses in order to expand their own operations. Some of the major acquisitions made by the bank includes its acquisition of Chitradurga Bank in the year 1964 that was regarded as the oldest bank in Mysore. Two years later, the made acquired the Bank of Karnataka in Hubli.
