The other channels are ETC, Mastiii, Sadhna, Sony Mix, Star Utsav, France 24, etc., while the radio channels include AIR, FM, DWS, and Delhi 2. DD Direct Plus has a very few premium channels in its listing which is one of the major factors of drifting of its customers to other's DTH service providers. The devices and equipment of DD Direct Plus such as set top box and Dish Antenna are available at the network of dealers and consumer electronic outlets across the country.
Channels Line Up
Apart from T.V. channels, it telecasts over 20 radio channels.
DD Direct Plus enjoys the subscriber base of over 18 million people throughout India and is one of the leading DTH service providers in India. Inspite of one of the largest DTH subscribers in the country, DD Direct Plus has to struggle in the stiff competition offered by many private DTH providers, which have a broad line up of channels and launched packages. It has also a moderate customer base in Pakistan with over two million people. It shares rivalry with the paid DTH operations such as Airtel, Dish TV, Sun Direct, Tata Sky, and Reliance Digital TV.
Operations and Infrastructure
DD Direct Plus is being provided on the FTA and its receiving end is located in Delhi, India. It transmits on the several frequency ranges from 10990 MHz, 11070 MHz, 11150 MHz, 11490 MHz, and 11570 MHz, while the position is vertical. The channels are delivered on the MPEG-2 technology format to the set top box. The signal is sent to the dish, which has the diameter of 60 to 90 c.m. DD Direct Plus provides a separate listing of ten channels on C Band to the regions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to the lack of the coverage of Ku Band there.
History and Expansion
DD Direct Plus was introduced in 2004 by Dr. Manmohan Singh, then Prime Minister of India. The service was launched to provide benefits of free satellite TV services to the households across India who couldn't afford expensive cable TV services; and to the remote areas and rural communities in the country. DD Direct Plus started with the lineup of thirty channels to telecast and with the further progress, it added other TV channels and radio stations as well. It was one of the earlier DTH service providers in India and gradually gained a dominant share in the total count of the DTH subscribers in India. The major part of its customer care is the communities residing in the rural areas and small towns of India.
