In the year 1920, Commerzbank AG joined hands with a regional banking service provider Mitteldeutsche Privat-Bank and after that expanded by merging with the Mitteldeutsche Creditbank. The bank in 1971 opened its branch in the New York City in America and became the Germany's first bank to do so. The bank stepped up with the purchase of Dresdner Bank in May 2009.
