Dear Bill, My father was an Air Force Pilot for 30 years. The main reason War Games are important in the Korea region is weather and geography. The best training for war is to for pilots and crews to practice flying around the area they will actually have to go to war in. There is nothing like experience of the lay of the land to save American lives if you actually have to go to war in a particular region. Every beach, mountain, island, field and emergency landing area becomes imprinted in the mind of the pilots and crews and people back home directing them. A pilot can swiftly navigate enemy territory in whatever mission he/she is on. Maps can help, but there's nothing like flying over geography again and again and again to improve performance. Also, obviously weather. Every region's weather has its own unique patterns. Whether its constant wind on the side of a group of mountains that can bring a plane down or a current of something or a stormy area to always avoid, there is nothing like recent and frequent experience to help a pilot complete his mission and bring everyone home safe.
