Abbott originally known as Abbott Laboratories is an American multinational pharmaceutical company that have its presence in over 130 countries of the world. The company was established way back in the year 1888 as 'Abbott Alkaloidal Company' by the hard works of Wallace Calvin Abbott after whom it was named. Wallace C. Abbott has done his graduation from the University of Michigan and developed the company at the Age of 30. Before the establishment of the company Abbott was doing his physician practice and owned a drug store in Illinois. The company opened its first international office in Montreal, Canada in the year 1931 following success of its business in the United States. The company's business is divided into mainly Three segments which are pharmaceuticals, hospital products and nutritional products. These are further divided into different fields which are namely 'Animal Health' under which it produce veterinary products, 'Diagnostics', 'Diabetes Care', 'vascular' under which it produce medical equipments like vessel closure devices, stents etc. In the year 1985 the company introduced the 'HIV blood-screening test' and became the first company to do so.
