Metro Water is a scheme under which the water is being transported for the drinking and for other uses.
Metro Water is also known as Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB). Until the middle of the 19th Century Chennai was using the old, traditional ways and the Very trivial wells top fulfill their needs of water. At the same time a civil engineer Mr.Fraser thought and realized the need of some different way to fulfill the needs of water. Mr.Fraser Approached the local government with project to make the river Kortalayar in use. The project was appreciated by the government of Chennai hence approved. The river Kortalayar was some how 160 kilometers away in the North west of the city Chennai. According the project the river Kortalayar was blocked at Amarapakkam and the water was diverted into the Cholavaram lake, after that the water was transported to the Red Hills through a complicated channels system and finally to the city Chennai.The project was completed in the year 1970 and was first time used in the year 1972.
