The Indian Law Institute - an autonomous body, situated in New Delhi is a deemed University and was founded on 27th December, 1956. The first President of India, Dr.Rajendra Prasad, inaugurated it. It is a premier law institute for national and International study of law. The main purpose is to give impetus to research in the field of law. As per the Memorandum of Association of the Institute its objectives are to promote Advance studies and research in law, to promote systemization of the law, to improve legal education, to publish studies, books, periodicals, to cultivate the science of law and to encourage and promote investigations in legal and Allied fields. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It has done significant work in the field of legal research on current issues, education and training. It plays a vital consultative role in nurturing the experimental research. It strives to make law an instrument of social engineering. Honourable Chief Justice of India is the Ex officio President of this institute.
